What is Liquid Shatter?

The vast majority of cannabis consumers understand the psychoactive nature of THC, and an increasing number of people are discovering and benefiting from the use of CBD. What many do not know is that the cannabis plant does not directly produce THC and CBD. Instead, the plant produces the "acid" form of these compounds known as THC-A and CBD-A, which are then converted to THC and CBD with the application of heat.

When smoking flower, that heat is applied by your lighter. But when producing oil for vape
cartridges, the process gets tricker. The most common method involves placing the extract in a hot oven to activate the THC and CBD. This process oxidizes, and therefore darkens, the oil
while also stripping away many of the original terpenes and other flavor compounds that may contribute to beneficial entourage effects. Most producers compensate for this by distilling just the THC away from the rest of the mix and adding terpene blends and flavoring in an attempt to mimic the original flower profile. Some have even diluted the oil further with MCT oil or vitamin E oil, which resulted in the widely publicized 2019 EVALI vape lung issue. The end result is a cannabis vape experience fully divorced from the original plant profile and, given the absence of those original complementary compounds, an arguably inferior effect.
